Dussel
Farm
Dussel’s
170-acre Brimfield Farm & a local Landmark has
been located in the Twp among the beautiful
rolling field’s since the early 50’s. This piece
of Americana is located at the corner of 43 &
Old Forge & is operated by Mike & Linda Dussel.
When the words Dussel Farm come up, everyone’s
thoughts drift to their great corn. As the corn
becomes available for sale the farmers market
also opens up, with many varieties of local home
grown produce. The season for the corn usually
runs from mid-August till the end of September.
When Fall marches in the crops wind down, no
need to fear, Dussels Fall festival with a spin
on Halloween comes a knocking. Featured at this
festival is the Corn Maize, 9am till dusk, the
Haunted bus & on weekends Kettle corn, carmel
apples, face painting & a children’s maize. Go
no further for your pumpkins, they have more
Jolly lantern’s than the scarecrow can shake a
stick at. The pumpkins are available for
purchase from late Sept till Hallow Eve.
A special fall treat is Linda’s Mum garden. This
garden is a photographers dream. So much color
in one place & as the mums bloom a perfect
addition for you for any Fall decorating
opportunity that arise.
As if running a farm & all the activities I have
already told you about are not enough, the
Dussel’s have opened a feed store which carries
all the feed for your livestock, horses, wild
bird, fish, guinea pig & alpaca needs. I’m sure
I missed some creatures, but knowing the Dussels
I’m sure they can hook you up.
If your looking for that perfect country visit,
look no further start heading our way & stop in
at Dussel’s and get a taste of the life that use
to be & that still thrives among the picturesque
rolling fields of Brimfield. For more
information call 330-673-5957. Don’t forget your
camera, your gonna need it!

The
Kelso House
The historic
Kelso House is owned and operated by the
non-profit Brimfield Memorial House Association
as a museum to preserve furniture, clothing,
books and toys which reflect life in a Western
Reserve township in the mid to late 1800’s.
The Greek Revival style house was built in 1833
by William and Lucy Sawyer Kelso on the
southeast corner at the center of Brimfield
Township. For more than fifty years the “Union
House” or “Old Hotel” as it was called by the
early town folk, served as the center of the
town’s social activity, with a post office on
the main floor and a ballroom on the second
floor. After Lucy’s death in 1886 the house
became a private residence, last lived in by a
granddaughter of the original owners.
In 1961 the property was sold, and to prevent
the demolition of the house the Brimfield
Memorial House Association was formed. The group
purchased the building from the Shell Oil
Company for $1.00, and moved it from the center
of the township to its present location, 4158
State Route 43, where it was set on new
foundations and refurbished with much of the
original woodwork and flooring. Later, more land
was purchased to house other historic buildings
nestled around the Kelso House. These buildings
include the Michael-Cable Barn (1845), the
Boosinger Corn Crib and Granary (1879), which
houses tools of yesteryear’s trades, and a
garden shed. Hopes for a replica of a district
schoolhouse are in our dreams to be added on our
site.
Our major means of operating is through
membership, donations from the public, and fund
raising. Membership is open to all beginning at
$10.00 for an individual. We are sponsoring a
commemorative brick drive. You may have bricks
engraved to honor or remember your loved ones at
a cost of $40.00 for two lines or $50.00 for
three lines. The bricks line the sidewalk near
the entrance to our new elevator at the back of
the house. Call us or e-mail us for more
information.
The mailing address for the site is Brimfield
Memorial House Association, P. O. Box 1231,
Kent, Ohio 44240, Judi Allen serves as the
curator and can be reached by phone at
